Are they lying to me?

I am sitting here having coffee with my parents (Hubby and my dad came home early from the hunting lease) and we are watching the news and the weather came on. It is -17 in Fargo, South Dakota. -17, HOLY SHIT!!!

So I make the comment, "What do those people do with the weather so cold? That is insane."

I ask my dad this because he knows the answer to everything, and he answers, "They have neighborhood bars."

"NO WAY!" was my response.

Both my parents keep telling me that it is true. Neighborhood bars that everyone hangs out in to get out of the cold. Bars on every street corner!

What the????

So my question to y'all is, are they for real? Are there really neighborhood bars and such where everybody knows your name? And it ISN'T frowned upon if your kids are in tow?

If so, LOOK OUT SOUTH DAKOTA, COCO'S COMIN' TO TOWN!!!!!!

I can't speak for Fargo, but my family is from Aurora IL and they have neighborhood bars there. Seriously, my uncles were all part of the Phoenix club. House, house, bar, house...and then in Bay City MI I found the same thing when we visited for my friends wedding. It's like cheers. So you don't necessarily have to go to Fargo...and freeze your rear off. It's probably slightly warmer in the Great Lakes States.

We don't have them in Colorado. I guess. There are more bars than Texas it seems. So, maybe?

We just stay inside and find things to do. Thus, the 2007Christmas Blizzard Baby.

I don't know about Fargo but that's the way it is in Northern Indiana. Seriously, there's a bar on every block in old neighborhoods usually along with a catholic church on every other block. Then everyone got crazy and decided to move to the suburbs.Bigger yards but sadly no subdivision bars.

I've always wondered...at what point does cold just not really feel any colder? We never see 17 around here much less -17.

I don't think there were any where I lived in Vermont.. I do remember what -17 feels like though...

Mother of God, that's cold. I don't even know how people live in weather like that.

It's been under 50 here some days in Southern California and I'm freaking out. Seriously freaking!

No thank you, extremely cold weather. It's 42 or so here today and that is cold enough. Coco, drink your wine at home alone and be done with it. We are Texas girls. We are not made to withstand those kind of temps with or without large amounts of beer. Sorry my friend :(

Sure, I have seen the neighborhood bars. Don't know about the kids coming along but there are those places where everyone knows your name.
