First big question.....

Yesterday, as we were driving home from the Wal-Mart, Bram asked me the first question that had me really thinking, "How do I answer this one?"

His question was, "Do we really die? Like everyone will die when they get old?"

Uh.

I wanted to answer truthfully, but not to where it would scare him. Death isn't scary but how do you convey that to a four year old.

This was my response, "Yes, everyone will die but it isn't scary and it won't happen for a long time. When you do die, everyone you love will be waiting for you. You get to eat McDonald's all day long and you will get to sit by Jesus forever. It is so great. But it won't happen for a very, very long time, so you don't need to worry about it now."

I think I handled that question well. And I thought we were through with the discussion because he immediately started talking about Transformers and how he wants a cat. Then about 10 minutes later I got this,

"So, when we die we are died forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever?"

This is when parenting gets tricky.

How cute, you did a good job! I think at this age Happy Meals really drive home the point...Sydney only wanted to know if there were strawberries in heaven.

When Mini starts asking the tough questions, I'm going to send him to TX and let you take care of it. You did a great job!

I have blogged about this too. I went through this with GTO at about the same age and have been getting the questions from GiGi for a very long time. They are so hard to answer. I tell my kids that we don't die, but have eternal life with our family in heaven. Death is such a scary topic so if you use the term eternal life, it really helps them. Just a suggestion...

YEAH for the ruffle dress. You will have to send me pics of Tess when you get it! :)

Luckily for me, the Peanut has decided that when you reach 100, you start all over again. My response? "Uh huh! That's how it works!"

Oh my... those questions are tough. Sydney asked the other day if when you get wrinkles, do you die? LORD, I hope not. She started staring at my face looking for wrinkles.
